Only a few days ago we got to know the new presentations of the APU Richland of AMD. To take advantage we used a Asrock motherboard to we will dedicate it’s own analysis.
The new APU Richland of AMD can work perfectly with the socket FM2 introduced with the Trinity processors. With this socket we can find in the market all types of motherboards in any format. Some chipsets with various benefits of which the most prepared, and also the most modern, is the Hudson A85X D4 that mounts this motherboards its base.
The most powerful chipset for this processors is the AMD A85X. Is the solution of this unique simple and effective chip. The boards of this chips are really simple and we can find the motherboards base in any format even the mini-ITX the smallest format we can find in the market for socket processors.
Is a veteran chipset but with performance we can expect of any modern and actualized chipset. It has a storage controller with up to eight SATA ports and all of them are 6 gbps. It supports RAID modes, up to RAID 5, in all its ports.
Other characteristics is that is the evolution of one of the first chipsets that offered USB 3.0 natively. All integrated in simple solutions with proper functions. This board counts with added technology that we will see more detailed.
Our A85X Extreme4 completely clear of expansion cards except for our SSD hard disk that we connect via PCI Express.
The Asrock FM2A85X Extreme 4 is a motherboard destined to take advantage of the A8 and A10 AMD processors and specially those that allow easy overclocking thanks to multiplying unlock. It is also prepared to realize quality overclocking in the integrated graphics of this processors. This model counts with four memory banks with a maximum capacity of 2GB of RAM DDR3 with overclocking frequencies of more than 2600MHz. This is important because the ideal frequency to take advantage of the new Richland processor graphics is using, as minimum, memories of 2133MHz and higher.

The connectivity is basic but effective. The eight SATA ports of 6 gbps divide in seven internal and one external. The board counts with 8 USB 3.0 ports but not all of them are with de plate’s chipset . Two of them are behind and two are in front corresponding with the chipset and other four behind belonging to a Etron EJ188 controller. This way we know what the chipset will give us, if or when, two USB 3.0 ports behind and other two in front, inside its limitations, the best configuration possible.
The graphic connectivity is very complete with a VGA port, other DVI and one HDMI port. The DVI port is doubled so it can support screen configurations up to 2560×1600 pixels. Sadly we can’t find support for Displayport and the HDMI port is limited to 1920×1200 pixel resolution. The board also offers a multichannel audio card, with analog and digital connectors, Ethernet Gigabit connector and even a combined PS2 port . The board also offers in the posterior panel a CMOS reset bottom to facilitate configuration in case of any problems.
The bios is UEFI type with the same graphic environment found on the last Asrock motherboards. In a very extensive board in configuration options, even with fan manual control, and obviously with great features for overclocking.
With this bios we have found good results of overclocking for the AMD A10-6800k analysis. Good result referring to one base plate that was not thought to cover files but to make processors give it all.
This board practically shares all the additional performance known on any other Extreme model of Asrock. This means that it has some very interesting things that make Asrock board model very economic but very prepared. Some details are the buttons in the board, or the diagnose display, an others less physical such as the “restart to UEFI” system that allows an easy start to the system with an accessible system to enter the bios when we want. This motherboard also supports memory profiles not only AMD but it is Intel compatible, therefore, with AMP and XMP technology.
The plate also incorporates Virtu MVP technology being one of the few base for AMD processors with this technology. Like you already know is capable of taking advantage of the integrated graphic performance and other graphic added. Other performance available is the XFast 555 technology found in all the Extreme de Asrock base plate. This technology includes the X-Fast RAM system, to create para RAM Disks in our system, X-Fast LAN for the package prioritization and the X-Fast USB to maximize the transferring in all types of USB units.
7 SATA ports of 6gbps with raid, buttons in the board, POST Display and frontal USB 3.0 . A single chipset and a motherboard without too much additives but very effective. This is what we can find in the cheap A85X Extreme 4 of Asrock.
Analysis and conclusion.
A veteran chipset and a board can permit us with the new AMD processors, has a economic device with the capacity to play in 1080p quality and a big quantity of games with medium quality of image and some high quality in other games.
The cost of the first order of this processors motherboard is less then 95 Euros (almost to laugh at), add 140 for the processor and 60 for the right memories and you will have 295 Euros without storage, a box and a power source.
