With less than a month for its final release, here we explain how to get Windows 10 for free.
Windows 10 will hit stores and servers next July 29, but as we have told you before very few people will have to pay to upgrade. If you have a license for Windows 8 or 7 (for example, because it came preinstalled on your computer), then you can upgrade without problems.
However if you do not have a license, you can still take advantage of another method to get it for free. As we posted last May, users of the previous version of Windows 10 would have access to the RTM (the "near-end" version).
Here we explain you how to get and download Windows 10 Free
Well, now that Microsoft has confirmed that users of the previous version of Windows 10 can upgrade and install the final version of Windows 10 without paying, there are only two requirements: first, signing up in Windows Insider to download Windows 10 Preview, and second, you are required to link your Microsoft account with the installation. If you are upgrading from Windows 8 or 7 or you have purchased a PC preinstalled with Windows 10, you are not required to link your Microsoft account.
Then you can already download Windows 10 Preview and install it on your computer. Keep in mind that though we are near the launch it is possible that you may find bugs and some unfinished software problems.
When you install Windows 10 Preview and create a user, you have to link it with your Microsoft account (the same one that you registered in Windows Insider).
Then, everything is set up and ready. On July 29 your Windows 10 Preview will be updated to the stable final version. If you’d like, you can continue with the Insider program to test beta versions of Windows, but it’s not required, you can exit the program when you want.
And what if you want to do a clean install from an ISO image? No problem, as you have associated the Microsoft license to your account, you can activate and verify the installation as you begin the first session. Mind you, this license is associated with the computer on which it was first installed, so it will not work on other computers or if you change components.
