Best Gaming Laptop

What does the best gaming laptop 2014 have?

  • Processoor- You must get the best CPU available. Presently, Intel has an i7 that is believed to be the best and it is better than the AMD.
  • GPU- A majority of laptops are available with a built in GPU and a bit of shared RAM. You must get a top choice that has the best discrete GPU with a minimum of 2 GB of dedicated RAM. Even better would be to get 4 GB of video memory. And current high-end gaming laptops always features GTX 770M, GTX 765M and Radeon HD 7970M GPU.
  • RAM: You will need a minimum of 8GB of RAM. This amount should ideally be 16 GB.
  • Battery life: When it comes to playing computer games, it will practically use up all of your battery life. This means that you always have to be in the same proximity as your light socket. However, you might be able to play two hours worth of games without the use of a jack. I think this is not very important, since most of time we playing games will using of a jack.
  • Speakers:: You will need great audio when playing computer games. The most up to date games have awesome sound capability. So, you might want to consider getting a laptop that has a soundcard or preinstalled chip with 5.1 Digital Dolby Live Surround Sound. Also, don’t forget to get the connectors because they are most definitely required. Simply put, a majority of preinstalled speakers don’t have an epiphany. So, you will need a professional headphones or connectors for your external computer speakers, if you truly want to have a great time playing games.
  • Screen: The best resolution for a gaming laptop is 1920 x 1080 pixels and the screen size for a gaming laptop should be a least a 15.6”. It would be great if you could get a larger size, but keep in mind that this also will make your computer a lot more bulkier. So, it is going to be up to you as to which is more important. Do you want a large size that will make it easier to see the game? Or, do you want a laptop that is not as heavy so that you can carry it around more often? This is a decision that only you can make, so you might have to find a laptop that is somewhere in the middle.

The best: Alienware ALW18-6491sLV Gaming Laptop

Alienware has an alien looking signature that is often called gaudy or tasteless, but the ALW18 has a black shell and lights that you can change on your own. This means that you have the power to make it as gaudy, bright and attention grabbing as you want it to be. This solid machine is one of the laptops that we recommend in the range that goes up to 12.1 pounds. Unfortunately, it is also very uncomfortable when you put it on your lap because of its size. However, Alienware has a great selection of choices in lighting. You can personalize the backlighting, the email notifications and the various light settings that are responsive to different gaming activities. These types of things have always been very impressive to people who like to play computer games. Although the keyboard is a little small, it responds to your touch and is not problematic. Even though it tends to give off too much reflection, the 18.4 inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display has a lot of colors that are rich and bright. Also, the black colors are very deep. If you do not have a subwoofer, the ALW18 has audio that has low bass. You can still get a great sound from the speakers without any distortion. M17x has a number of configuration options, but the model we recommend includes a 2.4 GHz(base)/3.4GHz (Turbo) Intel Core i7-4700MQ processor, 8GB of RAM, and a powerful high-end Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M SLI graphics processor. True to its high-end reputation, the ALW18 runs Battlefield 3 at 1080p on Ultra settings at a smooth 40fps, plays The Witcher 2 at 44fps on Ultra without Ubersampling, and was able to handle any other game we threw at it with aplomb. The fans are a little loud during heavy gaming, and the metal plates on the underside of the laptop can get pretty toasty — yet another reason to keep the machine off your lap.

The ALW18 has solid reputation for being a great gaming laptop computer. It features a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7-4700MQ processor, with Turbo Boost to 3.4GHz, 750GB 7200RPM HDD, 8GB DDR3 ram, and powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M SLI GPU with 4GB DDR5 VRAM, currently, the 770M SLI is one of the best graphics card for laptop .

It can play the Witcher 2 at 44fps on Ultra without Ubersampling, can play Battlefield 3 with a 1080p resolution via top settings at a good 40fps. In addition, it also has the capability to play all of the other games that were tested as well. Some of the disadvantages were that the fans got too loud and the bottom of the laptop got a little hot. However, this is a perfect example of how this particular laptop is not really laptop friendly. Between it getting too hot and it being too heavy to begin with, you might not want to put it on your lap too often.

When you are not playing games, the life of the battery will go for about 4 hours and 20 minutes, according to the Verge Battery Test. This is just a little less than the MSI GT70. It was found that the ALW18 would come out of the sleep mode after around 1.8 seconds and will boot up in about twenty six seconds. The ALW18’s 7200RPM HDD helps to make it faster. Obviously, if you have deep pockets and don’t mind spending the money, Alienware has additional storage alternatives. I think you add a 256GB SSD with more faster is better.

When it comes to gaming laptops, Alienware makes the ones with the most power. Although, you will have to pay more money to purchase them, but they are is worth buying.

Thanks for your review, what do you think about Radeon 7870M?

    • doncano says:

Don’t do it. 7870M is underpowered. I have the 675M sporting Gamer 7 and it’s a great unit. I paid $1750 for it about 8 months ago.

If I had to do it all over again right now, however, I would probably get the M17x with 7970M or 680M. Those two GPU can be up to twice as fast depending on the game / settings. Most of the time it will probably be about 30-50% faster if you’re using vsync. There’s plenty of options that have a 7970M or 680M. At this point, go with one of those two.

How come you’ve given the asus g75 such a low score?
Do you think I should just get a laptop now, if yes- which one?- or wait for the haswell ones to come (say g76- in August, hopefully)
