Generally, the specs for a gaming laptop that’s $600 or less are not stunning. It is not a good choice for a gamer who loves demanding games. However, if the games you are playing are not high-end and you don’t plan on playing high-end games in the near future, then there are still have many good options for laptops under 600$ .
I spent a lot of time researching gaming laptops under 600$ and discovered that most feature AMD’s integrated graphics. Currently, the best of them is the AMD A10-5757M processor that has an integrated Radeon HD 8650G graphics card. Fortunately, there are a few laptops configured with a dedicated GPU, and their prices are close to or a little more than $600. Another laptop is the Acer Aspire V3-572G-51DR, which features GeForce GT 840M discrete graphics. In any case, both the Radeon HD 8650G and 840M perform well and can fully meet the general demands of light/ medium games. Let’s take a closer look at these laptops:
Acer Aspire V3-572G-51DR
After extensive searching, I determined that the Acer 54s6 is the best laptop for gaming in the $600 range. It is well-built, has a relatively thin design, a great aluminum look (even though it’s plastic) and an excellent keyboard.
Equipped with a fourth-generation Intel i5-5200U processor (3MB Cache), 8GB DDR3 Ram, 1TB 5400rpm hard disk, the biggest bright spot is that its also equipped with the GeForce GT 840M graphics card. You wouldn’t find a better graphics card for a laptop under $600. At a resolution of 1366×768, the card runs smoothly for many medium games, and for some demanding games, such as Battlefield 4 and Crysis 3, will play well in the lower resolutions and/or details.
When you run some basic programs, such as browsing the web or listening to music, you can easy switch the gpu from Gtx 840m to Intel HD graphics. This can save on the notebook’s power consumption.
Like other mainstream notebooks, the Acer 54s6 is paired with the latest Windows 8.1 operating system. Perhaps you are not a fan of Windows 8.1, but please note that next year, Microsoft will launch Windows 10. Windows 8.1 users will have the option to upgrade free of charge to Windows 10, which comes with a variety of refreshing changes.
Overall, this notebook is very good. It’s well suited for students and light / medium games as well.
My suggestion: The price of SSD drives has dropped sharply. I recommend that you purchase an additional SSD drive for improved performance. You will notice a significant improvement in the speed. For the average user, 256 GB will be enough.
If you are dissatisfied with the screen’s 1366 x 768 resolution, you can select Acer Aspire V3-572G-543S, which comes with an 1080P screen. Its price is only about $50 more. (Detail information on Amazon)
Acer Aspire V5-552P-X404
Acer X404 is another great choice for laptops in the under $600 category. It comes equipped with an A10-5757M processor that’s integrated with Radeon HD 8650G, 8GB ram and 1TB HDD. In terms of the hardware performance, you know that it will be inferior when compared to the Acer 54s6. However, the highlight of this notebook is not its configuration, rather, it’s the touch screen which is helpful when using Windows 8 and the upcoming Windows 10 systems. There are few gaming laptops under 600$ that feature touchscreens.
Of course, for the gamer, notebook performance is an essential feature. Now, if the processor is no longer the bottleneck for the smooth running of a game, the graphics performance is the key. The Radeon HD 8650G performs similar to a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M or HD 7670M. I recommended reading about the Radeon HD 8650G on Notebookcheck. You will know whether or not, the GPU can adequately support the games you play. Only select this notebook if it can meet the requirements of the games you play.
HP ENVY m6 TouchSmart Laptop
Through my searching, I found that for the $600 price tag, the gaming laptops are mainly Acers. Other manufacturers do not seem to focus on this area or price point. As is difficult to produce a good gaming laptop, I recommend that you increase your budget and choose a gaming laptop for around $800. You’ll have more choices. Here I recommend the third choice. It is from HP: HP ENVY m6 TouchSmart Laptop. Its configuration is similar to the Acer X404 with AMD A10-5750M processors, the same integrated graphics Radeon HD 8650G, 750GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive and 6GB Ram. It also has the touchscreen that Acer x404 has.
You have been introduced to three laptops. I don’t know whether the specs will meet all of your gaming needs, but please understand that at a price tag, which is less than $600, selecting a gaming laptop with a stunning configuration is almost impossible. I recommend that gamers choose laptops based on their needs. For light / medium gaming these three are sufficient. If you increase your budget, you will have an improved selection.
