The most affordable laptops from ASUS get an update in graphics cards, but keep the same 3rd generation Intel Core processors.
The new X series models from Asus feature a 15.6-inch screen with a matte panel and 1366 x 768-pixel resolution. Inside it, we’ll find the third generation Intel Core “Ivy Bridge” processors, with the “Chief River” platforms. The different available models range from i3 to i7, with the Core i5 being the mid-level model, featuring an integrated graphics card and a GeForce 700 from Nvidia, which use is alternated when you need either thanks to the Optimus technology to adapt to your use and either boost the graphics or consume less resources.
It includes support for WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 (depending on the model) and USB 2.0, USB 3.0, VGA and HDMI ports. It also has an Ethernet port at 1 Gbps; it comes with Windows 8 pre-installed in its 2.5-inch, 5400 rpm, available in 500 GB and 1 TB versions.
The specs of the X series models are pretty modest and pale in comparison to other laptops’, however we have to remember they’re designed to be affordable and balanced. We’ll be able to get them for as low as $636 when they hit the market in September.
